BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Terrific: densely coloured and enormously constituted, with an immediate power unmatched by any recent vintage that we know. Noble flavours of plums, violets and liquorice; firm but sensual tannins; and a glorious alliance of power and finesse. Great value for money. 16

Margaret Rand: Softer than many of the Haut-Médoc wines this year; not hugely ripe but well balanced and with an air of prettiness. 15

Michael Schuster: Fruity to smell. Supple middleweight with a fresh acidity and firm but fine tannin. Nicely balanced, ripe and flavoury; some complexity and good length. 15+
