BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Beyond question, the most accomplished red to come out of this château in recent years. Handsome colour. Classical nose of soot and cedar. Richly aromatic. Fat, elegant tannins. The new Irish owner makes good wine. 15.5

Margaret Rand: Silky and elegant, with good length. Confident, finely knit wine. 16.5

Michael Schuster: Ripe red-fruit nose; supple medium-weight wine with a fine, quite dry tannin; gentle, sweetly ripe, oak vanilla-tinged fruit and a light gravelly background. Good red Fieuzal, but not yet up to the class of its white. 15
