Stephen Brook: Straw gold. Rich peach and barley-sugar aromas, quite powerful. Rich, creamy, full-bodied, voluptuous, tastes more like Sauternes itself than Barsac, but that’s the Nairac no-holds-barred style. It could do with a touch more acidity, but the weight of fruit and richness of flavor are impressive, especially in this tricky vintage. Medium length. 16.5
Andrew Jefford: Full gold. Old sample issue here. But what we have is relatively flat and torpid, with sweet, caramelly fruits that seem to be fading a little. One senses that the fruits could be exciting and more tropical in style than its peers, but this particular sample lacks aromatic focus and freshness. Lush, full, soupy, open, sweet. The wine in fact has better acidity than many of its peers, and the fruited print on both acidity and sweetness bodes well, but the general looseness and openness of the sample makes the score provisional. Some lime, orange, and tangerine on the finish. 14?
Michael Schuster: Mid-gold; youthful, closed, faintly waxy, a touch dampened by its wood; fairly concentrated and with a firm, defining acidity; intensely sweet, silky textured, liquorous wine of some complexity, but without the length and projection of flavor this has in finer vintages; nice, light length on the finish. Good, but unexciting. Now to 2020. 16+
