BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage: Deep, almost opaque. Morello cherry and spice on nose. Rich ripe fruit on the palate, of that quasi-soupy variety that seems to characterize some of the wines of this vintage. But there is reasonably firm acidity, and the tannins are ripe if slightly tough. Good length 15

Bruno Besa: Deep garnet to pink rim. Open, touch-rustic nose, with broad black fruits, hazelnuts, and hints of coffee. Medium body, with mature black fruit and moderate length. Good but too simple 14

Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red. A little bit gruff and murky in its aromatic profile. Some greenness, though not enough to be a blemish. In the mouth, this is a generously constituted, energetic wine, with plenty of thrust and sap to it. It’s been picked ripe and given an exuberant extraction. The tannins are boisterous; there’s meat and stone (and oak) behind the fruit. Concentrated, vivid, vigorous, and long, this is an energetic and engaging Brunello, though it’s one in which the beguiling ripeness of the vintage is less apparent than in many. 15
