Michael Schuster: A tricky, uneven vintage, but beautiful fruit and balance in the best wines. Relatively closed to smell, still with a clear touch of oak-vanilla alongside ripe blackcurrant and minerals, a fine bouquet in prospect; a rich, medium-full wine, nicely concentrated, fresh in acidity, supple-textured with a very fine tannin; a deliciously ripe, gently juicy fruit, long and classy with a clear underlying minerality, and fine length. Restrained, vital, classic claret, surprisingly accessible already, even better in five years’ time. Great harmony suggests a long and graceful aging. Now to 2030+.
