Pretty, racy, and finely made, but it suffers by comparison with the powerful 2015 and 2016. Think delicious nuanced charm: bright, savory, cassis and spicy fruit, with licorice and smoky herb notes, all wrapped in a supple texture. Haut-Bailly mostly escaped the terrible spring frosts. A summer with little rain made this one of the region’s driest vintages. | 90
