Michael Schuster: Very dark in color still; a ripe, rich, roasted bouquet followed by a palate of amazing concentration and extract; rich, fat, and sweetly ripe in flavor, a touch tar-like, with a firm but very fine-textured tannin; a wine with a superb fruit core, a lovely, almost thick richness, and terrific length across the palate and on the finish. Great presence, great harmony, great wine—every inch the image of this extraordinary vintage. Now to 2020, and likely to have a long, gentle, graceful decline. What a treat! 19.5
