BUY THE WINE

Michael Schuster: Dark, brick-rimmed mahogany, less mature in appearance than the 1989; surprisingly reserved to smell for its age and vintage—this bottle anyway. Rich, ripe, and ample flavor, still firmly tannic, but seems only moderately complex given its vintage and vineyard, and with good rather than great length. Warm and sweet, but somehow this just doesn’t sing as a top 1982 should. A bit lackluster and, like the finish, good but not great, especially given the expectations set up by the year. Future? Satisfying rather than scintillating… Now to 2030+. 17.5
