BUY THE WINE

Michael Schuster: Dark, brick-edged red (remarkable color from a very low yield—the ’56 frost effect!); dense, earthy, and with plenty of flavor for a difficult year, but the faintly medicinal and slightly “dirty barrel” flavor make this unattractive, even if not weak. Remarkable given the vintage, but tough, sinewy, and not exactly a pleasure.
