Simon Field: Deep of hue, a powerful nose, elements of torrefaction, and hints of bitumen. Palate is equally sturdy: molasses and tar. Structurally imposing, quite firm tannins at the back. Sui generis, not the most elegant example, and I wonder whether the powerful influence of the cask will soften. 14
Richard Mayson: Red-tinged mahogany, rather rustic, burnt aromas, touch of molasses. Fresher on the palate; rich with a lovely texture but a caramelized finish. Let down by the nose. 13
Margaret Rand: Decent focus and assertiveness. Some refinement and spice; a firm core and good length. Fine and moreish. 14
