BUY THE WINE

Stephen Brook:Very deep red, little evolution. The nose has the burly, plummy quality of many 1986s, but this bottle was, alas, very slightly corked. The quality of the wine was, however, still discernible on the palate. It is medium-bodied, with sweet fruit but also some furriness to the tannins. There is freshness and delicacy on the one hand and the expected tannins and structure on the other. Thus slightly atypical of the vintage—but this is not a perfect bottle. Good length, but with slight dryness on the finish.
