Jesús Barquín:Bright brown amber. This wine belongs to the group of 40 Year Olds, which is something that deserves utmost respect, beginning with the producer, but I must respectfully say that I do not find in it the type of greatness you would expect of such a wine. It is complex and concentrated, but it lacks some definition on the nose, and there is a feeling on the palate of insufficient alcohol integration. It is impressive indeed, but a 40 Year Old Port should be smooth and mellow. 90
Andrew Jefford:Deeply hued russet-walnut in color. Herbal sweetness, apricot skins, dry straw: a lovely aromatic complex of great charm and intricacy. A fine-grained palate, very smooth in texture; concentrated and intricate, with multilayered nuances to it. Great aromatic intricacies, too: tobacco, dry summer fruits, herbs and aromatic plants, root spices. Serene, harmonious, finely detailed old Tawny. 93
Richard Mayson:Pale to mid-autumnal hue, pale amber rim; lovely, lifted savory aromas, good milk chocolate; a touch roasted, with a hint of coffee bean; fine, lithe on the palate, quite delicate in style, with a touch of dried-apricot sweetness rising toward the finish. Refined and well balanced. 96
