Neal Martin: One of the oft-overlooked vintages, this has a seductive bouquet and is initially more generous than the ’85, with potent aromas of blackberry, wild mint, licorice, and a touch of smoke. Then, with aeration, lovely peach/ apricot aromas begin to emerge, with just a very faint touch of cassis. The palate is very well balanced, with tarry black fruits, cigar box, and dried herbs; fine tannins from the start to the off-dry finish, which shows no signs of enervation. Lovely. 17.5
