Neal Martin: A beautiful, tightly wound nose that unfolds in the glass. It is surprisingly Bordeaux-like, reminding me of a mature Pauillac, with cigar box interwoven into the ripe black fruits, with touches of licorice, wild mint, mulberry, and white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a sensuous, silky texture and is mellower than previous bottles I have encountered. Very harmonious, with hints of hung game and Italian salami toward the off-dry finish; the ’90 has wonderful depth and breadth, accompanied by a sense of control. Certainly the best bottle of Sassicaia ’90 that I have tasted. 18
