BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane: Dark color, cedar and black-berry blend on the nose; rich, creamy, even earthy; more polished tannins than Langoa, truffle-like finish indicating new oak not completely integrated; lots of wine but not a winner. 17

Thierry Desseauve: Same elegance as Langoa but even more intense body; wonderfully velvet-like on the palate; great persistence. 18

Michael Schuster: Fairly closed, but dense ripe fruit clearly there; full, concentrated, tannic wine; firm and sinewy, plenty of fruit, but a fairly severe mold at present; quite massive in style for the commune but complex and with excellent aromatic length, needing another 8–10 years in bottle at least; fulsome, muscular, long-term St-Julien. 2018–30+. 17
