Michael Schuster: Very dark color for the year; densely fruited to smell; well balanced, concentrated middleweight with a fine, dry, slightly “oak dry” tannin and nice freshness; a more complete “core” here than many wines from further south with a notable ripe fruit, mineral complexity, reach and scope; tannins are now very firm, and the “velvety” of my en primeur note looks optimistic. Moderately complex, and with good length. St-Estèphe sinew is clear, but not coarse; nice mid-palate matter, good aromatic length, clear minerality. But the tannins have certainly hardened. Will need a good ten years. From 2017. 16
