James Lawther: The first of two examples (see also 2004) that show that in a lighter year the single grape variety has difficulty absorbing the 100 percent new oak. Garnet hue; lighter at the rim. Toasted oak notes dominate the nose. Palate supple, fresh, and finely crafted, but again the (vanilla, toasted) oak comes through. Will perhaps benefit from time (but I think the oak will still be to its detriment)? Drink 2014–20. 15.5
