Michael Schuster: (bottled 1984, recorked 2003) Pale, bright tawny; lovely, subtle yet glassfillingly heady and multifaceted bouquet of smoke, roasted nuts, glacé fruit, and citrus zest; it would benefit from a large glass. Classic Sercial proportions (more obviously Sercial than the 1966): concentrated, linear, lean, and high in acidity, but without any austerity; almost bone-dry in taste—just a touch of sweetness; intense, incisive, aromatic, and characterful; a complex, beautifully sustained flavor, with superb, lightly caramel-infused, scented length. A really lovely example, now and for years to come, complete and wonderfully fragrant. An even more perfect example of fine old Sercial than the 1966; a fresh, taut, vital, bright-eyed centurion! 18.5+
