Alex Hunt: This is a sensuous nose for patisserie fans: cream, blueberry jam, sweet pastry—it’s all here. On that basis, the lush, mocha-framed palate doesn’t disappoint, but I find it all a little bit sweet and lacking in tension. It bends over backward to please, and as such, it comes out soppy - 15

Andrew Jefford: Dense, dark, glossy black-red. This is a lovely meaty Argentinian nose (meatiness is much less common in Chile); thick, slabby, oozing as much blood as black fruit. On the palate, it is dense, closetextured, sweet—indeed, there is almost a fudge or caramel note in here; yet somehow that sweetness doesn’t seem simple or monotonous, since the extractive force of the wine helps carry it. It doesn’t have the splendid limpid core of fruit that was so evident in almost all of the Chilean wines; the fruit here is more of a structuring note, lifting and perfuming but strangely elusive when you search for it. You get the sense that the flesh in a wine like this, in other words, comes from the skins rather than the pulp. Evidently ambitious, impressive wine. Harmony is the great challenge here: will it come with time? 17

Jancis Robinson: Really quite remarkably dark purple. Thick and so Argentinian and really rather lovable and gorgeous. Sweet and rich and beautifully balanced. Some lightness here—magically. This is liquid Andes magic. Heat, light, spot of water. Really quite spiritually uplifting to find a wine singing its origins so eloquently. Neat finish. Long. Drink to 2019 - 17.5
