Alex Hunt: Wild, dusty aromas of plum jam and brambles, then a very tannic, borderlineoverextracted palate that nonetheless manages to finish on fruit and mineral notes, the tannin having melted away at the 11th hour. This is intriguing. There is a fair bit of VA and I suspect high alcohol, but in this context there remains a freshness that would shame many Ribera del Dueros with similar structure. Rather exciting - 17

Andrew Jefford: Dense, saturated and glossy black. Warm, throbbingly meaty, slabby, glistening: ah, Argentina! Vivid, assertive, bright, and unexpectedly energetic on the palate, by contrast. More of a tenor than a bass, with a slightly salty, leathery style to the fruit. There is lots of concentration, though, and lots of tannic drag on the salty fruit, too, to give it mealtime aptitude. Jolly good wine, though maybe not the greatest vineyard site? I would just like a little more freshness and poise to the fruit at this stage of relative youth - 15

Jancis Robinson: Dark blackish purple. Big, intense, very vibrant nose. A little brutal. Savory and chewy and as though dry-grown fruit almost. Honest toil in this wine, which tastes almost sweaty and salty. Could probably only be Argentinian but not lifted. Very feet-on-the-ground, roots-in-the-soil. Just not syrupy. Very serious effort. But a bit hot on the end. Drink 2014–20 - 16.5
