Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Splendid and exuberant bouquet of raspberries and blackberries, with some floral tones, too. Very rich, concentrated, almost thick in its texture, with spiciness and pungency. Clearly an optimally ripe style, and while there’s a trace of alcohol on the palate, there’s enough weight of fruit to absorb it. The tannins are fine-grained, which gives the wine some elegance, too. Good length 17
Alex Hunt: There is plenty of barrel character on the nose here, but the quality of the oak is clearly top drawer. Underneath, there is already impressively pure, cohesive fruit massing. This is a densely concentrated style that finds a fine balance: it’s luscious but not soppy, forthright but not exaggerated. With another year in bottle, this should be rather exciting 16.5
Anthony Rose: This is invitingly deep and vivid in color, with a well-focused, spicy, dark-berry fruitcentered aromatic character, hinting at plum and cinnamon spice. It’s initially opulent on the palate, in a spectrum of dark-berry fruit and damson, fair concentration bringing substantial tannic bite and freshness in an appealing, well-crafted style that’s powerful and needs contrasting chargrilled or relatively fatty meat 17
