Stephen Brook: Deep red. Very ripe nose, with raspberry and cherry aromas and a whiff of oak. Plump and rounded, but then the acidity kicks in and enlivens the palate. Some chocolaty tones, too, presumably from the oak. Yet I don’t sense much structure, and I commend the wine for its vibrancy and immediacy. It lacks some length and is not for long aging, but it’s fresh and balanced and very drinkable, with no excesses 15
Alex Hunt: Fairly closed blackberry and plum aromas, with the beginnings of some herbal complexity. The palate is perhaps a little exaggerated, structurally, with a marked sweetness on entry, followed by very bright acidity, and then tannins finally locking down the finish. Some resolution may come with time, but I suspect this wine will always be a little clumsy 14
Anthony Rose: Medium ruby in color, this is on the primary, strawberryish side on the nose, with sweet, relatively concentrated fruit that’s pleasingly reminiscent of strawberry and blackberry jam, and yet it’s not jammy, thanks to the saving grace of nice, balancing freshness, light spicy oak, and a “bitey,” slightly refreshing bitter twist of tannin on the back palate 16
