Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Vibrant nose—spicy, with raspberries and mocha and a general cornucopia of fruit. Rich and suave, with weight and swagger, this is an admirable Zinfandel, packed with fruit yet not extracted or blowsy. There’s a fine thread of acidity running through the palate to keep the wine fresh and lively. Very seductive and impeccably balanced, which more than compensates for a slight lack of complexity 18
Alex Hunt: This is on the borderline of excess volatile acidity. There isn’t enough else going on aromatically to mask it. The palate has beguiling, sweet berry fruit up front but lacks the top notes to balance it. Basically good fruit, but the wine is not quite in tune 12.5
Anthony Rose: Good depth of youthful ruby, this is sweet and dark on the nose, with brambly, blackberry-ish sweet-fruit concentration; some prune, too, and quite firm, chunky tannins on the aftertaste that bring a certain degree of dry rusticity to the wine. It’s of a style, which may be a tad on the baked and dry side for its own good, and it’s certainly in the riper, chunkier spectrum of Zinfandel 15.5
