BUY THE WINE

Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Dense, brooding blackcherry nose. Broad and opulent, with a creamy texture and good concentration of fruit. The tannins are quite prominent, and though they don’t unbalance the wine, they suggest a bit more bottle age wouldn’t go amiss. This has grip without undue extraction and sufficient acidity to give finesse and persistence 18

Alex Hunt: This is an overtly raisiny style; in terms of Port, more Tawny than Ruby. It’s a heavy, fatiguing mouthful, with issues that simply boosting the acidity would not have fixed. The fruit was overripe 11

Anthony Rose: Quite dark and deep ruby color, this is ultra-ripe and pruney to the point of Portiness on the nose; it’s big and powerful, blackberryish, with some attractively concentrated, super-ripe fruit cut by a compensating twist of dry tannins and acidity. One of those big wines that slightly lack dimension and purpose 15.5
