Andrew Jefford: Clear pale gold. Warm, soft, gentle and understated aromas. I’m looking for clear allusive notes, but finding few of them—a little musky fruit, some white chocolate? Maybe. But it’s an attractive, quietly satisfying white wine to smell nonetheless. On the palate, you find more expression, more lines of enquiry to follow up: something sappy and fresh that I wasn’t expecting; some sweetly satisfying hay, pine needle, and green plum. It’s long, poised, graceful, subtle, and naturally articulated; very satisfying in the mouth. A beautiful and relaxed drinker’s white, of a sort that few southern hemisphere winemakers would have been happy with a decade ago. 90
Andreas Larsson: More primary fruit here, some floral and grapey notes, with quince and pear, pure fruit and no oak, medium weight, with a slight hint of sugar, generous fruit, and moderate acidity. It still needs time to develop nuance, however with good extract and length, it should develop well. 85
Jancis Robinson: Greenish straw. Herbal and understated. Comes billowing up aromatically. Much wilder than most of these wines but with a great panoply of feral, often floral, aromas. Bright and tense on the palate, with the promise of long development ahead. The Chenin is discernible along with some mildly bitter herbs. A great tensile blend without any flab, not simple sweet grapiness as a result of the Muscat of Alexandria. Builds on the finish. Marked acidity and energy. Could only be South African! Drink 2015–20. 94
