Nicolas Belfrage: Quite deep with garnet rim. Sweet, ripe, small-black-berry fruit, with floral notes. Concentrated and tannic, with very firm acidity, it needs time to come together but could develop very well. Drink from 2018. 17
Bruno Besa: Deep garnet to tawny rim. Super-complex nose, with road tar, prunes, pine resin, violets, and forest undergrowth. Full body, with massive tannins, rich black fruit, and a long, fragrant finish. A great Barolo, with decades of aging potential. 18
Andrew Jefford: Deep garnet red. An engaging, exotic, truffley kind of aroma, with lots of incense spice, too. What exactly is going on here? A Scheherazade of a Barolo, complete with head-turning sandalwood. Well, why not? On the palate, this is a well-constituted, ripe, round-textured, but nonetheless commanding wine and, in truth, less exotic and more classical in its flavors than the aromas suggested it might be. Lovely glowing ripeness; ample but well-balanced tannins; and a vivid, perfumey, echo-chamber flavor, with lots of curranty and autumnal classicism. A gorgeous wine to find in your glass. 16.5
