Domaine Weinbach Alsace Grand Cru Schlossberg Ste Catherine Riesling 2021 (14% ABV) – 92
SR | This 2021 Schlossberg Riesling offers a noble, discreetly intense nose, with remarkable depth and terroir-driven complexity, which is expressed in a very fine flintiness. This is a cool and detailed expression of this large grand cru, and the fruit is remarkably fine and elegant. The attack on the palate is charmingly finessed and frisky, before the wine reveals a dense and juicy mid-palate and develops an impressive finish, with a firm mineral structure, persistent salinity, and stimulating tannic grip. The fruit is clear and precise, perfectly ripe and even juicy, then turns stimulatingly bitter on the complex and expressive finish. The fruit is perfectly ripe, dense, and textured. An impressive, rich, and well-sustained Schlossberg Riesling, with great aging potential. 94
AJ | Very complete aromas, here, in the Schlossberg context: ample citrus and orchard fruit, unlit Virginia tobacco, spring leaves and flowers. Graceful and precise. Time in the glass brings a little creaminess. You couldn't really ask for more. Soft, understated, limpid, and complex on the palate; delicate fruits, with a wonderful floral and eau-de-cologne lift. The wine seems to flower in the mouth. The acidity is less pronounced than for some, and there might be a gram or two of residual sugar lurking in here somewhere, so it's not one for the Riesling ultras. But I like it a lot. 92
AR | A youthful pale green in color, this is a tad shy in scent at this initial stage but showing a degree of floral and citrus aromas; there's a light initial spritz and an immediately appealing, juicy, ripe citrus-fruit quality, underpinned by gentle rather than perky acidity, finishing dry. A pleasnt wine, if a touch too much on the sweet-and-sour side for my palate. 89
