Domaine Trapet Alsace Grand Cru Schoenenbourg Riesling 2020 (13.5% ABV) – 91
SR | Bright in its pale citrus color, this 2020 Schoenenbourg offers a slightly reductive and untamed bouquet of leather intertwined with bright and elegant fruits and the iodine purity of the marly terroir of this grand cru. On the palate, this is a generous but refined and elegant Riesling, with a fine and saline acidity, delicate tannins, and a still tight and reductive, but really singing finish. The wine is not bone-dry (I guess) but refined and elegant, well-balanced and very promising. Very complex and saline on the intense and still dry aftertaste. Already three years old, this Schoenenbourg is still a baby, but has great potential. 93
AJ | Another pale gold-silver wine with silver glints. Fresh, earthy, planty, with delicate and understated fruits (apple and peach) mingled with notes of forest, undergrowth, and fern. An attractive mix: subtle and compelling. It does, though, grow a little more mono-dimensional with time in the glass. Attractive on the palate, too, and once again the Schoenenbourg character of rich-textured flavors composed of mingled fruit and plant notes is to the fore. Schoenenbourg is a kind of jungle Riesling! And this is a very good example: planty, sappy, soft, and long. 90
AR | Pale, bright, lemony green in color, this shows an appealing floral and citrus-fruit freshness, a gentle tingle, with plenty of ripe, full-bodied citrusy flavor, with background stone-fruit notes; it's juicy, easy to like, with sufficient fresh acidity for a nicely balanced and fresh Riesling, whose light grip brings another dimension of structure and, with it, the potential for aging. 90
