Domaine Trapet Schoenenbourg Riesling Sans Soufre 2020 (14% ABV) – 89
SR | This 2020 Schoenenbourg starts animal and untamed, very similar to the [Domaine Trapet Schlossberg Riesling 2020] but is pure and flinty in the background, which makes it a Schoenenbourg. The wine is elegant and lush on the palate, not bone-dry, and provided with slightly drying tannins at this early stage. There is finesse, elegance, and generosity as well as lots of salt and grip on the finish, but this is not the time to enjoy this promising Riesling. It will, I hope and believe, develop in the bottle. 91
AJ | Pale silver-gold. Still a fermentative, slightly coarse style of aroma, as we found with some of our Schlossberg wines; I am wondering if a particular yeast is to blame here. There is some gruff fruit, too; lacks finesse and precision, though satisfying. These are issues on the palate, too. A fair wine, nice for a glass or two, but I think the site can do better than this. 86
AR | A pale lemon in color, this is a little reticent in aroma but shows a modicum of the typical citrus and curry spice fragrance of youthful Alsace grand cru Riesling; there's a light tingle on the tongue before the taste of full-bodied stone-fruit ripeness, enough to give an immediate hit of satisfaction, especially when underlined by a juicy acid ripeness and just a hint of phenolic bitterness, too, on the dry, food-friendly finish. 91
