Chateau Canon Saint-Emilion Bordeaux France 2019 (14.5% ABV) — 94.3
SF | Dense colour, but with a distinct uplift on the nose; crushed red fruit, spice and a hint of creme de cassis, white pepper, almonds and fig. The palate is broad generous and yet refined and punctuated with an almost pointillist accuracy. Discrete acidity, a slow mid-palate build and an assonant, allusive personality. Refined and exceptionally elegant, careless of the minutiae of vintage obstacles, impressive and challenging at the same time. Elegant above all else. 95
AJ | Dark though not opaque black-red. Lovely sweet freshness of aromatic fruit here. Very pristine and pure, and it's not just the black cherry and plum fruit itself that appeals, but also the sense that there's a charge of spring blossom behind, lifting those fruits. Pristine and fresh, and hugely attractive. Svelte, energetic and enticing on the palate, too, with huge energy behind the shapely fruits. The perfumes, too, are apparent on the palate as well as the aromatic profile, lending this vibrant, aerial and lunging wine charm as well force and focus.Drink Dates: 2025 - 2040. 94
MS | Overtly and freshly fruity at once, limestone mineral tinged too; full, lively, moderately tannic; a particularly vital flavour here, crisply sweet red fruit, pure, vivid, transparent, with the limestone plateau finesse and minerality clear to taste, and with very fine dry tannins giving the wine a toothsome sapidity; great finesse, great length of fruit and aroma imbued aftertaste. A polished, aristocratic expression of Canon. Time required, reward assured. 18+ Drink Dates: 2034 - 2050+. 94
