SF | Straw colour, old gold if one is of a generous disposition...a rather unusual nose of graphite ( petrichor) and ginger, white pepper and brine. The seascape is evoked on the palate too, with salinity to the fore, seaweed too, then bacon rind and very mature orchard fruit, long since dried out.. Anomalies notwithstanding this is an impressive, involving example, with rigour and energy tracked all the way through the palate. 89
AJ | More old-gold than gold. The deepest coloured of its flight of six. Slightly tired in aroma, with a varnishy note I would rather wasn't there. Touch murky. Here, too, a disappointment, and 'murky' sums it up. It lacks the lift and freshness you hope for in the style, and isn't really better considered as a fine-amontillado. There is some off note which needs investigation.Drink Dates: 2024 - 2025. 82
DW | Some lively lift to the nose of vanilla and cafe creme, both of which lead into a palate which is creamy but has momentum powered with bittersweet and yeasty tang. Really satisfying and detailed finish, that coffee tone returning resonantly.Drink Dates: 2024 - 2025. 93
