AJ | Dark, saturated black-red. An admirable compost of fruits, though clearly mint-infused in this vintage. Nothing raw or harsh, though. Some hop-leaf resins and some savoury notes, too. Complex and intriguing. This has the svelte, slender profile of the chateau - but it fills it out beautifully with firm, fresh fruit flesh, and as the aromas suggest, they have managed to gather up all the 'complexity' that was out in the vineyard and funnel it into the Grand Vin, just leaving the fruit in its own simple glory for the second wine. Relative to its peers, this is one of the best Lagranges I can recall and probably a great buy if you love the class and classicism of the Medoc. How well they have done the purity! Not a stayer, though; enjoy within the decade. Drink Dates: 2027 - 2037. 91
SF | Deeply saturated, and bestowed with a powerfully fruity aromatic ( licorice and plum, prune even) this is a more vigorous Lagrange than sometimes, and maybe as a result falling short of its usual high aromatic standards. it is complete and harmonious however, and finishes strongly. Drink Dates: 2030 - 2037. 91
