Simon Field: Deep mahogany coloring, with a green luster and intimations of power. Nose redolent of a smoldering bonfire, with dashes of secular incense and peat; I know that Madeira is a long way from Islay, but the spirit is here. On the palate, the volatile notes are emphatic, distinctive certainly, almost too much in the pay of the élevage to achieve complete harmony. 15

Richard Mayson: Deep amber to pale mahogany. Lovely high-toned nose showing complexity, concentration, and age. Green, sinewy flavors, pungent, with great concentration and characteristic astringency on the finish. Fine mature vintage Sercial. 17.5

Margaret Rand: Lovely autumnal bonfire nose, all perfumed woodsmoke. Palate is quite substantial, quite muscular, with good depth, and more smoke and perfume. A streak of sour lemons on the very long finish. Unusual; very characterful. 17.5
