Bruno Besa: Deep garnet to tawny. Dark, complex, black and red fruit, meaty, with smoke, tar, and an earthy character. Full-bodied, with rich black fruit and fine tannins, long and mineral. Classic Serralunga Barolo for the cellar. 94

Andrew Jefford: Dark black-red, though translucent now. Plummy and warm, with ample fresh fruit: fresh, sweet, mellow, and tender. A fine aromatic profile, with admirable subtlety and finesse: roses, tobacco, pomegranate, honeysuckle. Concentrated: a drama school! Bright, fresh, gathered, taut yet succulent. Very commanding, authoritative wine. It needs longer for the aromas to unfold, but there is much highly classical pleasure to come here. Brisk, fresh, swish, epigrammatical. 92

Michael Palij: Richly textured nose of red currant, damson, fig, prune, and rose hip, allied to the structural integrity of Serralunga. On the palate, the fruit surges in a way that makes the formidable tannins and alcohol fall into line. This has a certain rustic charm and convincing fruit. Long and delicious. 93
