Andrew Jefford | Dark, dense black-red in color, though not quite opaque. Sweet, crisp, crunchy-fragrant blackcurrants, with an angelica-root sweetness; a very comely nose. The palate absolutely delivers on that aromatic promise, with fine precision (to use the trendy term) and freshness. This is balletic, graceful claret spinning around a core of sharp-shapely blackcurrants. Cool to the last drop, but convincing refreshment and elegance. | 89

Michael Schuster | A sweetly fragrant nose with, here, too, the merest suggestion of herbaceousness; light to medium-full, crisp in acidity, light in tannin. A gentle fruit, not as easy and flowing as usual, good light length, but its elegance and poise are definitely in a cooler register this year. And so, this is slightly hard work for Cantemerle. Which prompts the question, What else is available for a similar price? Accessible soon. 2022–30. | 87
