Simon Field | Spanish gold with a French twist; no-nonsense aromatics; come-hither but watch your step. Guava, fig, pineapple, and a lick of almond essence, vanillin maybe; gingerbread and soft spice. Real intensity and generosity on the palate, Barsac indulgence but with Barsac elegance and grip. Incredibly low yields, one would imagine, but well worth the effort, it appears. And with more to come—the virtues of patience. | 93
Andrew Jefford | Generous, glinting, late-summer buttercup- petal gold. Wonderfully zesty and fresh: as with Doisy-Daëne, another completely convincing expression of “the Barsac difference.” Bright, high-summer fruits (peach and nectarine) all blitzed up with meadow flowers, birch sap, and Alpine honey: zesty, alive, telling, even refreshing. Weighty, full, deep: all the generosity that 2017 zipped up in Sauternes in general is here. But it’s lively and alive, dancing, lit up with summer-fruit acidity and dripping with those peach and nectarine traces, that flower-bright honey, circling round to circle over itself once again, lively and long. Very true and very fine; very gratifying—but very refreshing as well. A great effort here. | 94
