Simon Field | Raven dark, saturnine at the core; youthful nose, unyielding at first, as should be the case in this, the first (deep) flush of youth. The spirit level underlines precocity, but already emerging are sweet floral aromatics, violets and even a hint of lavender. The tannins are astringent, rigid, Doric, and firm; they underwrite the assemblage and underline seriousness of intent: Longer-term appreciation advised. Plums, damsons, and dark cherries battle through the miasma of indulgence and do so with great aplomb. | 91
Andrew Jefford | Dark, deep black-purple red, though without the glass-staining qualities of its deepest peers. Fresh, sweet, graceful, rather classy aromas of fine blackcurrants, orange peel, and bergamot. Great charm here and a Port that is more resolved, refined and coherent than many of its peers at this stage. This is smooth, settled, and almost accessible already: a chiffon scarf Vintage Port whose considerable charm and appeal lies in its poised, generous, and allusive fruits. | 86
Richard Mayson | Ripe, hot-country fruit on the nose, a touch spirity and seemingly still not quite all together. Rich and fleshy, withatouch of bittersweet dark- chocolate intensity mid-palate. Lovely definition and freshness, with a firm berry-fruit finish. | 92
