Stephen Brook | The nose is delicate and floral, with a hint of violets, and there seems to be a whiff of oak, too. The attack shows poise and finesse, and impressive intensity of fruit, despite the prominent tannins. Understated and compact now, this should blossom with more time. The finish is surprisingly sturdy and robust. Fine potential here, but it needs more aging. Long fnish. | 94
Andrew Jefford | Deep garnet-red. Soft, graceful, gentle: almost dusty raspberries here. Fruits in the potting shed. Plenty of subtlety, too, though, with hints of incense and root spice. Vivid, warm-toned fruit with broad-beamed tannins and gentle, ripe acidity. There’s sap and sweet glycerol, too. A relaxed, chatty, allusive, and companionable wine. Hard to mark, since there are others with more “structure” and “concentration” but for sheer deliciousness this is completely up there. And what else do we want if not deliciousness? | 91
Michael Palij | Complete and balanced nose, with raspberry, crushed walnuts, tinned strawberry, charred wood, and vanilla. On the palate, this shows complex fruit characteristics, but the tannins from the wood quickly dominate the fruit and leave this edgy and lean. It lacks the generosity of great Brunello and lives inside the wood that defines it. | 93
