Andrew Jefford | Saturated, deep black-red and black-red almost to the rim. Very lushly ripe on the nose: eating chocolate mousse in the back of a Cadillac. Great fun. Sweet and voluptuous, though perhaps I wouldn’t have guessed 2016 blind. On the palate, as on the nose: a very good but very ripe wine with a purity of (ultra-ripe) fruit which eludes many of its peers, and with real finesse of tannins, too. Lovely qualities to it, but almost no acidity. The tannins more than make up in giving the wine structure and balance, so honestly it works very well... but, but, but is it 2016? If this is so ripe and low-acid, just down the road from Pomerol, why isn’t Pomerol so ripe and low-acid as well? Perhaps there are sands here... at any rate it is a good wine which defies the standard 2016 profile and tastes more like 2009 or 2000. | 90
Michael Schuster | Immediately attractive, sweetly, freshly ripe bouquet; full, fresh, nicely concentrated wine; plenty of sweet fruit, a nice length of flavor, juicy, searching, satisfying, and with a lovely persistence of aftertaste. Fine La Tour Figeac. Accessible early, but with years in hand. Now to 2036+. | 91
