Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Delicate, poised nose, with pure blackcurrant fruit and an engaging leafiness that gives it elegance. Rich, supple, understated, with a touch more reserve and depth than the Langoa. It may not have as much immediate appeal as its stablemate, but the wine shows a bit more complexity. It’s not that expressive now but has fine concentration and an effortless quality. It’s well turned out and should go the distance. Fine length. 18
Andrew Jefford: Dark black-red. Fresh and lively, balanced, rounded, composed, and unshowy. Earth, leaf, fruit: the whole season is there. Just an intimation of the woods beyond. On the palate, impressive ripeness matched with great grace of flavor, almost crisp fruit qualities, very delicately extracted tannins, and a melting finish. Impeccable style and classicism. For lovers of disposition rather than accumulation. A wholly admirable response to the vintage. 17
Michael Schuster: Dense, crisply ripe, blackcurrant nose; rich, ripe, firm, elegantly balanced wine. Sweet yet fresh fruit, ample, aromatic, and complex within its firm, long-term tannin texture. Long in the mouth, quite powerful for St-Julien, with excellent fruit and aroma persistence. Chewy but very fine. 2016–30+. 17+
