Simon Field | Green-gold with aromatics of the fens; dried fruit and hints of celery. Less intense than some but still marked by characteristic “smoky” acidity and the faint pull of long-lost tannins; less imposing at the end than some of its peers. | 85
Andrew Jefford | Bright pale gold. At first sniff, this seems rather seaweedy, with a distinct oxidative note in addition to the tang of voile. Later, it becomes more savory, and there is a peachy fruit behind. Later again, there is no oxidative tang at all, and it contrives to suggest baking shortbread. An intriguing rotational mix (typical for Vin Jaune). Intense and quite full on the palate, with very vivid apple-tamarind acidity firmly in command of the flavors. Ample nuttiness behind this, to fill it out in the finishing flavor echo, though on the palate not quite the same allusiveness as the wine had aromatically; the acidity is just a little too dominant for that. | 91
Roy Richards | Pale gold. Bouquet is a little flat, some sweetness. This is modern in style and aérien, but it lacks complexity. | 84
