Hélène Darroze at The Connaught: Fine wine dinners come to Mayfair

By The World of Fine Wine Team

Some of Europe’s finest wine estates are the focus of a series of very special wine dinners at Hélène Darroze at The Connaught in Mayfair this year.

The historic London hotel will welcome guests to six events, featuring vertical tastings matched with dishes devised by French star chef, Hélène Darrozze, and her resident executive chef, Marco Zampese.

The series begins on March 21, 2022, with an evening dedicated to the wines of Château Lafite-Rothschild.

Five great vintages of Lafite

Jean-Sébastien Philippe, commercial director at Domaines Barons de Rothschild, will lead a guided tasting of five Lafite vintages—1999, 1990, 1989, and 1979 (all from mangnum), and 1962 (from bottle)—alongside The Connaught’s director of wine, Daniel Manetti and Lupo Thoenes, head sommelier for Hélène Darroze at The Connaught.

Guests will also be served 2013 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet (double magnum) and 1999 Champagne Salon (magnum).

The series continues in April with a dinner devoted to Krug, followed by the Mosel’s Egon Müller, Alsace’s Maison Trimbach, and Burgundy’s Domaine Rousseau in June, and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in September.

Hélène Darroze and wine: A close relationship

“A close relationship with wine producers has always been at the heart of The Connaught Hotel Wine Program—down to the cellar holding legendary vintages and exclusive collections from around the globe,” said the launch release from Hélène Darroze at The Connaught.

“Each evening will be accompanied by a bespoke menu. However, in a twist to the usual restaurant pairing—where wines are matched to the food—the chefs will instead create dishes that perfectly compliment each chosen wine.

“As guests dine, they will be given an insight into the story behind each vintage: its origins, characteristics and tasting notes—from vine to bottle.”

Tickets for the Château Lafite-Rothschild dinner, which includes a five-course menu, wines, water, coffee/tea, VAT, and service charge, are available from the hotel’s reservations department; +44 020 3147 7200 or email helenedarroze@the-connaught.co.uk.
