The Coravin Guide will include a by-the-glass rating system.
Very few products in any sector can claim to have had quite the effect that Coravin has had on wine hospitality since it was launched in 2013. The wine preservation system (or rather systems since the original has been joined by a number of other gadgets aimed at, among other uses, sparkling wines and bottles sealed with synthetic closures in the decade since) has become a familiar tool for restaurants and bars with an interest in wine, and has enabled an enormous growth in the depth and breadth of wine-by-glass offerings all over the world.
The sheer range of outlets now making use of Coravin systems of one kind or another, as well as the many outlets who have grown their wine-by-the-glass programs without acquiring a Coravin device, has led the company behind it to produce what it calls the “world’s first” digital guide to the world’s by-the-glass menus.
Featuring coverage of “extensive and exciting by-the-glass lists” and highlighting the work of “sommeliers in restaurants, bars, hotels, and private clubs,” The Coravin Guide, will be free to users and the featured establishments, and will initially cover establishments in London, Sydney, Melbourne, Milan, The Netherlands, and California, before expanding to “additional cities” in the coming months. With users able to search by region, occasion, and wine style, the featured wine-by-the-glass programs will also be rated according to a ranking system. Developed by Coravin, the rankings are based on the number of wines offered by the glass with One Glass meaning 20 to 40 wines by the glass; Two Glasses, 41 to 60; and Three Glasses more than 60. A further category, Greg’s Hidden Gems, will highlight “small but inspirational by-the-glass finds.”

Discovery, not limitation
“Wine by-the-glass should be about discovery, not limitation, and is literally why I invented Coravin over a decade ago,” said Coravin founder Greg Lambrecht. “Too often people feel they need an occasion to open a special bottle when out, or they miss out because a full bottle feels like a commitment. The Coravin Guide gives wine lovers the freedom to find venues that share that same philosophy – where you can taste, explore and savour wine one glass at a time.”
“We see first-hand how wine by-the-glass is evolving as consumer trends shift towards ‘drinking less but better’ and a deeper curiosity in wine exploration grows,” added Coravin CEO Dave Krupinski. “We recognized a clear need for a platform celebrating the quality, variety and accessibility of wines by-the-glass. We are proud of the role Coravin can play in breaking down barriers and connecting wine lovers with the people and places redefining wine experiences.”
Participation in The Coravin Guide is free and open to all qualifying venues, regardless of whether they use a Coravin system. Interest can be registered at coravin.com.
