BUY THE WINE

Nicolas Belfrage | Unusually deep hue, just a hint of oranging on the rim. Peppery spicy, floral. In the mouth, sweet and fullish, nicely balanced by adequate structure (tannins/acids) and plenty of ripe fruit. Drinking now for a couple of decades. | 91

Bruno Besa | Garnet to pink. Complex, spicy black and red fruits nose with smoke, prunes, and black cherries, hints of petrol and tar. Medium to full body, with prunes, cloves, and cinnamon palate and a long, muscular finish. Big and generous. | 92

Andrew Jefford | Clear, deep red-black. Warm, creamy, earthy, complex: mixed fruits with fresh tones, forest undergrowth, sweet cherry. Lively, vivid, vigorous, close-textured, and lively, though with a sharp note to the fruits. Poised and long, and it’s one of those wines that, in weights-and-measures terms, is up there with the best. But those cool, sharp, abrupt tones stop it quite singing for me. Satisfying and commanding within the context of the vintage, though. | 90
