Neil Beckett | An exceptional vintage, an exceptional wine, even by the exemplary new standards here under Jacques Devauges, who explained that in 2016 "all the planets seemed to be aligned behind Morey-St-Denis." The domaine lost very little to frost, and while the average yield over the past ten years has been 25hl/ha, in 2016 it was 35hl/ha, the highest since 1999 and higher than in 2017. Each of the barrel samples from the eight different cuves (containing 27 different parcels) was distinctive and impressive, so it was no surprise that the blend Jacques made reflecting the probable proportions of the final wine was superb. Mid-ruby. Aérien, fine, pure but fully ripe petits fruits rouges and light red licorice. Luminous, multi- faceted, perfectly proprtioned, profoundly thrilling wine, surely a new high point for the domaine. | 96
