BUY THE WINE

Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Lovely ripe fruit, smooth texture, marked vinosity and tannins, with a slight edge of aggression. Powerful and well structured, but some of its peers showed better-extracted tannins (maybe because their samples were better chosen from this point of view). 15

Margaret Rand: Very ripe, supple tannins – plenty of them, and they’re rich – combined with very good balance and the gloss that comes with good winemaking. 17.5

Michael Schuster: Inky. Dense, ripe, cassis Cabernet with marked new-wood vanilla. Fairly concentrated, rich, ripe, fleshy wine within a fine but very firm grape and oak tannin. Attractive ripe fruit at its core and good, sweet length. New oak a bit drying on the finish. Good, medium- to long-term Haut-Bages. 15+
