Alison Buchanan: Black cherry to a firm rim, this is very dark and subdued on the nose. There is brooding fruit there, though, lifted by Parma violets and stewed cherries. Creamy and seductive on the palate, dark opulent and ripe, there is an attractive freshness through to a long, layered mocha-rich finish. 17.5

Jancis Robinson: Purple. Some ketone-y fruit, dark, a bit ‘gamey’? Warm, spicy, quite a lot of tannin. Decent fruit, good structure, nice tannins and a warm length. 16.5

Jeremy Watson: This falls short of the 2001 Bodegas Roda Roda II Reserva, 2001 Bodegas Bilbaínas La Vicalanda Reserva and 2001 Finca Valpiedra Reserva. In fact, it’s not a particularly good wine – not really even an enjoyable simple and straightforward wine, so… 10
