Simon Field: Rich colour. Nose mute, unforthcoming as of yet. On the palate, the wine is marked by length and concentration. Power and grip, peppery and quite precocious. A big wine limbering up; the potential is there and will reveal itself over 10-15 years but may never quite make the premier league. 15
Andrew Jefford: Very dark, purple-black colours. Slightly less glycerous and leggy than some, but in no hurry to age. Enticing aromatic profile of great purity: clean, sweet, resonant and refined. Big, concentrated, deep, long and pure. Very pure classic fruit definition backed by lovely clean, brisk, fresh tannin structure. In the final analysis, not multidimensional enough for greatness, but very alluring and classic and poised. 17.5
Richard Mayson: Very deep opaque centre, thin crimson rim. Closed and dense but with huge underlying richness and a lot more to give. Wonderfully rich, fleshy fruit, very characteristic of 1994 with ripe tannins rising in the mouth. A peacock’s-tail finish. Very fine indeed. Drink 2010-2030. 18
