Jasper Morris: The first bottle was good despite its low fill—a glowing orange color and a delicate bouquet of raspberry and rose petal. It was served alongside the fish course—bar de ligne cuit à basse température aux queues d’écrevisses, façon nage—which proved fascinating, as fish and Pinot flavors alternated in the mouth without either being compromised. Benjamin Leroux, however, reckoned that the 1962 normally shows even better, so bottle B was called into action... This was one of the sublime wines of the evening. The color was equally glowing but a touch deeper, with sensual, delicate, red-fruit flavors on the nose. A complete bundle of complex aromas, raspberry and strawberry included, but nothing as simple as that alone. Perfect balance and harmony—a completely sublime bottle of perfectly mature Burgundy that is in no hurry to finish evolving. Elegance and power are united, usually the preserve of the Côte de Nuits at grand cru level.
