Jasper Morris: Interest in the 1886 vanished when this was poured. Identified by a slip label but having remained in the family’s ownership throughout. An excellent fill level under a wax capsule. A brilliant, clear, brick red, with a beautiful, pure, clear red center. This could have been served after the 1962 and ’59 without anybody noticing a century of difference! The palate showed drier than the 1886 but far finer. No hurry to capture this! The texture was all lace, the flavors more floral than fruit-based. No question of its authenticity, but it tasted ageless! Even 40 minutes after opening, the wine seemed still to be improving, becoming fuller and richer. The daintiest of roses lingered long after the last taste. A truly astonishing experience.
